Criminal Division Kicks Off Plea Bargaining Camp at Kigo Prison

The Criminal Division on Monday December 18, 2023 kicked off a week-long Plea Bargaining Prison Camp at Kigo Prison, where 64 cases are going to handled.
According to the causelist signed by the Criminal Division Deputy Registrar, HW Festo Nsenga, Hon.Lady Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga and Hon. Lady Justice Flavia Nassuna Matovu, will handling the matters.
Aggravated Defilement cases top the list of the files to be plea bargained with 24 cases followed by Aggravated Robbery with 20, and Trafficking in Persons with 10.
Rape accounts for eight (8) while Kidnapping has two (2) files.
Hon. Lady Justice Jane Okuo urged the inmates not to negotiate for the reduction of the charges against them or the sentences if they know they are not guilty.
The Officer in Charge Kigo Main Prison, Assistant Superintendent of Prison, Mr Justine Eliu, appreciated the Judiciary for introducing the initiative and also encouraged accused persons to embrace it.
Taking part in the Camp; HW Nsenga, State Attorneys; Ms. Ainebyona Happiness, Ms. Joanita Tumwikiriza and Ms. Barbra Kyomugisha. Mr Kumbuga Richard and Mr John Kabagambe are also present as Defense Counsel.
